Anta Helena Recke is a director, dramaturg, conceptual artist, and writer.She studied Scenic Arts at the University of Hildesheim and worked as an assistant director at the Münchner Kammerspiele under Matthias Lilienthal from 2015 to 2017.The critics’ survey of Theater heute named her Emerging Artist of the Year 2018. Her directorial works MITTELREICH and Die Kränkungen der Menschheit were invited to the prestigious Berliner Theatertreffen. In 2021, she directed the world premiere of Olivia Wenzel’s debut novel 1000 Serpentinen Angst at the Maxim Gorki Theater. She co-founded the German Museum for Black Entertainment and Black Music. Since 2021 she has occasionally been part of various Writers Rooms (Jünglinge Film, Netflix).In 2024, she made her debut in screenwriting and film direction with the anthology TV series Made in Germany, which was shown at the Max Ophüls as well as Achtung Berlin Festival and is now available on the streaming platform ARD Mediathek.For 2024/25, Anta Helena Recke is a fellow of the Berlin Artistic Research Program, where she is currently exploring experimental film, focusing on African vintage films within Afro-diasporic contexts.
